How to connect your Root Domain to Typedream (instead of your www)

In this guide, we'll show you the steps required to connect your root domain to Typedream, and then redirect your www subdomain to your root domain.

For example:

Requirements

Your domain provider needs to allow CNAME Flattening, which is connecting CNAME to your root (apex) domain.

This is normally done by:

List of domain providers that allows you to do this:

If your domain provider is not on the list, you can check with you domain provider if this is available.

Steps

First and foremost, you need to contact us on Slack to do this as we have to update your record manually.

  1. A representative from Typedream will update your domain in our DB to connect your root domain. (Note that once this is done, your www subdomain will stop working)
  2. You then need to add the following to your Domain Provider:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: @ or empty (depends on your domain provider)
    • Target: render-36alh.ondigitalocean.app.

(Note that once this is done, your root (apex) domain should start working, i.e. your mydomain.com should show your typedream page)

  3. Next, you just need to redirect www.mydomain.commydomain.com. You can follow this guide to do that: Redirect www to your root domain or vice versa →
